We reached the city limits, heading west into a subdued orange smog sunset. Here, the buildings grew short and squat, elongated into strip malls and gas stations, thousand house subdivisions with winding cul-de-sacs and stupid street names. Here you could get lost in mundane, middle class America, driving around for hours in homogenized, corporate landmarks. The mire of normalcy.
